Boiler Scrappage Scheme

Lower Carbon Emissions

The government are pursuing an aggressive strategy to reduce carbon emissions; the Boiler Scrappage Scheme is the latest in a long list of actions. Read about the changes to road tax prices at our sister site, roadtaxprices.co.uk, where you'll find information on road tax bands, road tax prices 2010 and the new government showroom tax.

Is your boiler in Band G?

There's a handy list of all current G-rated boilers available on the OFGEM website - click here to access the list. You'll need Microsoft Excel to open the document when it loads.

Boiler ratings explained:

Until the EU directive on boiler energy directive is published, the SEDBUK (Seasonal Efficiency of Domestic Boilers in the United Kingdom) ratings are the way in which boiler efficiency is measured.

Many households are still using 30-year old boilers which are less than 70% efficient - as well contributing excessively to carbon emissions, these households are also wasting on average £200 per year on their utility bills!

New efficient condensing boilers are the way forward - typically falling into bands A or B, these boilers are better on both the environment and the wallet. More information is available on the SEDBUK website.

Save £400 on a new gas boiler with the new Boiler Scrappage Scheme available from the 18th January 2010!

FACT - the scrappage scheme incentive to replace old ‘G’ rated gas boilers will save you more than just the £400 government green boiler incentive payment.  New A Rated condensing boilers can generate household energy savings of up to £235* every year and considerably cutting CO2 emissions.

Add the incentive payment to annual energy savings and effectively a new boiler is likely to pay for itself in 4 to 5 years.
